Thomas Harvin Sr. was a South Carolinian.

Thomas Harvin was born on May 28, 1844, probably in Sumter, South Carolina.^[1] His parents were Richard Harvin and Julia Skinner. ^[2]

He fought in the Civil War with the Confederate Army in Company H, 5th Calvary, S. C. V. as a Private. ^[3][4]

He married Mary Bethune.^[5] Together they had the following children:

1. Septimus Harvin
2. Thomas Harvin
3. Frank Harvin
4. Joseph Harvin

He died suddenly on May 05, 1917, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hugh Belser in Concord, Clarendon, South Carolina, United States, and is buried in Baptist Cemetery, Summerton, Clarendon County, S.C.^[6][7]
