Biography
The baptism of Thomas Harwood, son of James (labourer) and Mary of ?Northall, is recorded in Northolt, Ealing, England on 29 Sep 1822. [1]
Nineteen year old Thomas is listed in his parents' household in Uxbridge in the 1841 Census. Thomas, and his father James, were working as labourers. Also in the household were his mother Jane, and sixteen year old Charlott.[2]
Thomas, Jane and their family of eight children, aged 13 to 0, is listed in the 1851 Census, living at 21, Rookery, St John Hackney, Hackney, London & Middlesex, England. Thomas is listed as working as a labourer, and the eldest son was working as a watercress seller. Thomas is listed as born out of the county. Jane as born in Hammersmith, and all the children born in Hackney. [3]
Ten years later, still in Hackney, they were living at 4 Pleasant Place. Thomas, and the two eldest sons at home are listed as working as a bricklayers' labourers. There were nine children in the household, aged from 17-3 years old. In this document the whole family is listed as having been born in Middlesex. [4]
Thomas has not been located in the 1881 Census. His children William, Charlotte and Richard were living together in a household in that Census, which might suggest that both Thomas and Jane may have died in the ten years preceding.
