Place: Littleport, St George Parish, Cambridgeshire, England
Notes
Found in the 1851 census for Littleport living with Jane Hawkins as general servants for Wright and Eleanor Laston and family; she was unmarried and 12 years old.
Rec'd a copy of page 1 of a letter sent 12/2/1996 to Olga Kaiser from a friend who resides in Jackson, MI. Her friend researched the Jackson City directories from 1914 (1st one) to the 1924 dir.
Elizabeth Copsey was the widow of Robert Copsey by 1914 and lived at 1302 Francis St., Jackson. Helen L. Copsey who was a student lived at 1601 E. Ganson St. and Margaret was a clerk and also lived at 1302 Francis St.
The 1915-1916 Directory was the same. In 1918 Margaret lived at the same address as above and was a clerk at White Laundry. Helen was a student living still at Ganson St. and there was no mention of Elizabeth Copsey (Harwood).
The 1924 Directory showed Margaret as an employee of White Laundry and lived at 1614 Fourth St. No mention of Helen or Elizabeth in 1924. The White Laundry was located at 125-129 E. Cortland St. and was owned by George Gates and Thomas Troman. The 1925 Directory was the same as 1924.
Olga Kaiser thinks that George Gates married one of the Copsey girls. Her friend checked the Jackson directories for Harwood, Gallop, and Copsey and only came up with the above findings.
I can check the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census for Jackson, Mi at those address to get further information. I can also check the respective ages of the Copsey's to verify that I have the correct Elizabeth Harwood in this family. Checked the 1910 Michigan Census Roll No. 653; Ed. 19; Dist. 2; Sheet 14 and verified that Harriet Copsey married George E. Copsey, Jr. : Also, found Elizabeth to be born abt 1839 and had been married about 49 years. She had 6 children, 4 were still alive. Immigrated to US in 1870. The Cambridge CRO's Littleport marriage index confirmed this marriage and date.
