Biography

Josiah Haskell was born on 5 Jul 1737 in Harvard, Massachusetts, the son of Joseph Haskell and Mary Woodward.[1][2][3]

Josiah married Mary Gates on 15 Dec 1763 in Harvard, Massachusetts.[4] They had the following children:[1][2]

  • Levi
  • Jacob
  • Josiah Jr.
  • Mary, married Willard
  • Sarah, died in infancy
Josiah served in the Revolutionary War in 1775 as lieutenant of minutemen at the Lexington Alarm [5][6] and as lieutenant in Capt. Isaac Gates 4th Company, Col. Asa Whitcomb's Regiment, that marched on the April 19th, 1775 alarm to Cambridge and returned 28 Apr 1775.[1][2][7][8][9][10][11]

Mary Haskell died in 1798 and Josiah married, as his second wife, Elizabeth Reed, after their intention was filed on 26 Nov 1801 in Harvard, Massachusetts.[1][2][12][13]

Josiah died on 19 May 1819 in Harvard, Massachusetts[14] and was buried at Harvard Center Cemetery, Harvard, Worcester Co., Massachusetts.[1][2][15]
