Biography

Sarah (née Haskell) Harraden, daughter of William Haskell and Mary Tybbott, was born June 28, 1660[1][2] in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[3][4][5][6] SEE RESEARCH NOTES.

Sarah Haskell married Edward Harraden[5][7] on February 5, 1684[1][2] in Gloucester, Massachusetts.[3]

Sarah and Edward Harraden had the following children, all born in Gloucester, Massachusetts:[8][9]

  1. Andrew Harradan (Haraden), b. May 9, 1686,[10] d.21 Apr 1688;
  2. Sarah, b. Mar. 11, 1687/88,[11] d.10 Apr 1688;
  3. Edward Harradan (Haraden), b. April 7, 1689,[12] m1.Hannah Somes 1714, m2.Mary Sargeant 1724;
  4. Mary Harradan (Haraden), b. Feb. 20, 1690.[13]

Sarah died in 1690/91 in Gloucester, Massachusetts,[5] on 4 March.[3] Sarah died before her father who, in his will, bequeathed to her heirs "£10 current pay of the merchants".[9]

Research Notes

The Sarah Haskell that married John Poole in 1677 and Woodbury in 1679 was born to Roger Haskell 1614-1667 and Elizabeth Hardy 1617-1676. SEE HER AT Haskell-1002.

It has been suggested that Mary and Sarah Haskell are twins since some sources have them listed with the same date of birth and same parents. However, at least one Haskell family website (Link broken) has an alternate year of birth for Mary as 1651. See Mary's profile for more information -- her profile was updated July 2018.

This may be a misreading of data for Sary Hough, the daughter of William and Seary Hough, born 23 January 1651. Gloucester Births: "Sary, d. William and Seary, 23: 1m: 1651". According to court records, Mary (née Hauskell) ________ was born on 28 Jun 1660 in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony to William and Mary Hauskell (Hauskell is a recording variant of Haskell). Gloucester Births: "HAUSCALL (Haskell) Mary, d. William and Mary, June 28, 1660. CTR" Further research is required to resolve this hypothesis.

The early Haskell/Hascall family in Gloucester is summarized in A Genealogical Dictionary Of The First Settlers Of New England by James Savage:[7]
