RESEARCH NOTE: Interesting side note taken from daughter Tabitha's profile:
Tabitha's parents, Joseph Haskins (1745-1823) and Elizabeth (1744-1833) took in four girls from the Squires family after the parents died. The girls were Elizabeth, Abigail, Mary Ann and Rachel. Elizabeth (1797-1880) eventually married William Smith, and their daughter Rebecca (1818-1906) married William Jones (1815-1908), which eventually leads to the Baker, Tuck and Weekes families.
Joseph HASKINS and Elizabeth Olmstead lived at Putnam Twp, Washington, New York, before William Hutton took possession in 1785. When did the family move to Canada?
A land petition in 13 May 1793 shows their daughter Elizabeth and husband Israel Olmstead were there by 13 May 1793.[1]
"The family stories all told that the Haskins and their sons-in-law had arrived as a group in 1797."
The Wikitree entry for his daughter Tabitha and her husband John Hutton states that "They went from Putnam Twp, Washington Co NY to Wolford ON in May 1798 and he was awarded land in Upper Canada on the claim that his father William Hutton was a spy for the British during the American Revolution."
In 1802 there is a Gideon Haskins in Montague, which along with Wolford, Oxford and Marlborough were part of one township with one council for municipal purposes.
The Haskins were one of the first two actual settlers of Wolford Twp, along with Joseph Easton of Easton's Corners. On 1 May 1802 Joseph and Elizabeth, Joseph, Nicolas, Hannah, and Anise Haskins, as well as various Omsteds, are listed as being among the residents of Wolford. Joseph Haskins (Haiskins) was a Loyalist and was granted a land Patent for 200 acres, 17 May 1802, Wolford Lot 25, Conc A. In 1806 Joseph erected a saw-mill on a farm "now owned by Mr. Omstead, near the railway station, one of the first two saw-mills on the Rideau".[2](pp.86-88)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
Haskins-572 and Haskins-171 appear to represent the same person because: Please note that a rejected match is ONLY to be used when you are certain the two profiles do not represent the same individual. In this case, that kind of certainty does not exist. Small discrepancies like born 1745 vs. "about 1746" are not inconsistent with it being a duplicate, especially with so many other matching components.
Haskins-572 and Haskins-171 appear to represent the same person because: 1745 and "about 1746" are not actually different birth dates, since 1745 is within a year of 1746.
Haskins-572 and Haskins-171 do not represent the same person because: Birth day's are different and birth place different. The older date come from UEL history of Leeds & Grenville.
