Biography

Rachel was born in 1808. She was the daughter of William Haskins and Nancy Willis. She married John H. Brumfield on July 28, 1823 in Lawrence, Ohio.^[1] The couple are listed together on the 1850 Census in Logan, Virginia with fifteen children listed in their household.^[2] On the 1860 Census she is listed as the head of the household with nine children in her household^[3] and on the 1870 Census she is listed in the home of her son; Allen.^[4] The last census report she is listed on is the 1880 Census and she is listed in the household of her daughter (Nancy) and her son-in-law; Rufus Fry.^[5] She passed away in 1880 and is buried in the John H. Brumfield Family Cemetery in Gill, Lincoln County, West Virginia. ^[6]
