Amos Hastings was born in 1757, the son of John Hastings and Rebecca Kelly.[1] In 1778, he married Elizabeth Wiley, daughter of William Wiley and Susan (Gordon) Wiley of Andover, MA.[2] Elizabeth was born 14 Jan. 1755 at Methuen, MA. They settled at Pequawket, an Abernacki Indian name for present-day Fryeburg, ME. The couple had ten children:

  1. Jonas, b. 28 July 1779 in Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine
  2. Sally, b. 20 December 1779 in Eastport, Washington County, Maine
  3. Amos, b. 31 May 1781 in Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine
  4. Betsy, b. 18 May 1782 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine
  5. Lucinda, b. 24 April 1785 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine
  6. Susanna, b. 31 May 1788 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine
  7. Timothy, b. 31 October 1790 in Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine
  8. Lucinda, b. 7 Apr. 1794 in Bethel, Oxdord County, Maine
  9. John, b. 06 May 1796 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; and
  10. Huldah, b. 17 April 1798 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine.

Amos Hastings served in the American Revolution. (Gen.) Amos Hastings died 28 July 1829 at Bethel, ME, age 72. Widow Elizabeth Wiley died 12 June 1846, age 91. They were buried in Woodland Cemetery, Bethel, ME.
