Biography

Henry Ward Hatch was born in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts in 1848, the son of Harclus Hatch and Amanda Monroe.

The 1850 US census for East Bridgewater, Massachusetts lists residents Harculas [sic] Hatch (44), a farmer, Amanda Hatch (36), Nahum A Hatch (16), a shoemaker and a student, Sarah A Hatch (10), a student, and Henry W Hatch (1). Hatch owns real estate valued at $1000.

The 1860 US census for East Bridgewater, Massachusetts lists household residents as Amanda Hatch (46), widowed, Henry W Hatch (13), a student, Jos [sic] Foster (39), a shoemaker, and Sarah A Foster (20). All were born in Massachusetts. Amanda owns real estate valued at $850 and has a personal estate of $200 while Joseph has a personal estate valued at $150. Note: Joseph Foster is the son-in-law of Amanda, married to her daughter Sarah.

He married Lucinda Randall on 26 Mar 1869 at East Bridgewater. They are the parents of nine known children.

In 1870, according to the US census report for East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Henry (21) resides with his wife Lucinda (22) and daughter Lila W (5 months). He is employed at a shoe factory and has real estate valued at $600.

The 1880 US census report for Halifax, Massachusetts dated 1 Jun 1880 shows Henry (31) employed as an engineer in a nail factory. He resides with his wife Lucinda (32), and children Lila W (10), Henry S (8), Merrill M (4), Ethan A (2) and Mary M (5 months).

In 1900, the US census report for East Bridgewater, Massachusetts dated 11 Jun 1900 shows Henry (51) and his family residing on Central Street. He is employed as a real estate agent. Residing with him is wife Lucinda (52), and daughters Mary A (20), Ruth L (18) and Sarah A (16). Sarah is employed as a saleswoman.

The 1920 US census for Whitman, Massachusetts shows Henry, age 71, as a watchman for a leather shop. Lucinda, also 71, resides with him.

Henry died in 1928 and is buried at the Central Cemetery, Halifax, Massachusetts.
