Research Notes
Melvina's parents were not married at the time of her birth. Melvina was given her mother's surname of Crabtree. Her parents married about one month after she was born, and at some point Melvina took her father's last name of Hatfield, as evident in her 1869 marriage certificate [2].
"Melvina Hatfield Farley Hatfield" which implies that she was also married to a husband with the last name Farley. More research is needed. The name “Vena Farley” comes from the death certificate of Granville Hatfield as it is the name written down for Granville’s mother.
WikiTree user Cher Kandra Smith added Basil Bordon Hatfield (1839-1926) as a second spouse for Melvina on 3 April 2023, but without sources. A source for this information has been requested. Melvina’s proven husband, Wallace Hatfield, is still alive when Melvina allegedly marries Wallace’s brother Basil in 1921.
