Biography

John Melvin Hatfield was born on May 22, 1855, in Indiana, his father, Christopher, was 31 and his mother, Sylvania, was 17.

1860 lived on family farm with parents, brother, Grandma Harlan, and Uncle John Harlan, in Prairie township, Kosciusko County, Indiana.

1870 lived on family farm with parents, 5 siblings, and farm hand, in Prairie Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana. 1870 attended school.

He married Civilla L. Winters on October 24, 1882, in Chicago, Illinois. They had 15 children in 28 years.

He died in 1935 in Lake City, Iowa, at the age of 80. Buried in Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, Calhoun County, Iowa.
