Research notes

Date and place of birth
There is no known record of Adam's birth. As he married Martha Cleaver in 1742, he was likely born no later than 1721 but probably earlier.
Father
Other records show father as Nathan Hatfield who came to New Jersey in 1695. This tree shows children as: Smith, Job, Nathan, and Elias
John Hatfield, who married Catherine Supplee at the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia in November of 1739, is the son of another John Hatfield and his wife Elizabeth. The first record for the father John appears in 1717 when "John Hadfield, late of Maidenhead in the County of Hunterdon in the Province of West New Jersey but now of Upper Dublin Township in the County of Philadelphia..." purchased 198 acres of land near Philadelphia. John and Elizabeth had 6 children named Sarah (who married Anthony Kunders), Jane (who married James Conrad), Elizabeth (who married Henry Dismant), Suzannah (who married Joseph Turner), Adam (who married Mary Cleaver), and John (who married Catherine Supplee).

Sources

  1. From 1155 to 1752, the English calendar (also used in the American colonies) was based on the Julian calendar, and the first day of the English calendar year was 25 March. As a result, the date of the day following 24 Mar 1741, for example, would have been 25 Mar 1742. For this reason, before 1752, dates falling between 1 Jan and 24 Mar would frequently be recorded with both the actual year and the following year, e.g. 22 Mar 1741/2, to avoid confusion. Moreover, Quakers did not use the English names for the months as many of them referred to pagan (Roman) gods or persons, and instead referred to them as "first month", "second month" etc. Accordingly, until 1752, "first month" referred to March, "second month" to April etc. Therefore, the date "6th day of the first month 1741" would refer to 6 Mar 1741/2 (not 22 Jan 11741/2).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Adam by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Adam:
