Biography

William Hathaway was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to New South Wales

William Hathaway, aka Hathway, Hetheway, was born before, and christened on, 3 February 1779 at Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom[1][2], the son of Robert Hathway and Jane Knight. His siblings were Robert Hathway, Hannah Hathway, Thomas Hathaway, Mary Hathaway, George Hathaway, Sarah Hathaway and Betty Hathaway.

He lived in Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom until leaving for Australia on September, 1802. William left England aboard the "Glatton" on 11 March, 1803 [3] arriving at Sydney Cove, Greater Sydney, New South Wales, Australia,[4] one of 401 convicts transported on the "Glatton" to Australia arriving in March 1803.

William received a conditional pardon in 1803, [5]and was given land in Seven Hills, New South Wales, Australia, where he settled, and was employed as the District Constable of Seven Hills.

William must have formed a relationship with Mary Hooper, who had arrived aboard the "Experiment" in New South Wales on 7 May, 1804, a convict transported on the convoy, "Coromandel and Experiment", very soon after her arrival, as their son Robert was born under 9 months later. Robert was christened on 25 Jan 1805[6] and their daughter, Sarah was born in about August 1809 and died, aged 10 months[7], in June 1810 and was buried on 15 June 1810 at St John's Church of England Parramatta[8], but the Marriage of William and Mary was not formalised until 1838[9][10][11], two years after the unexpected death of their only son, Robert.

William's son Robert died on 28 June 1936 and
William died on 23 June 1842 at Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia[12]. [13]
