Benjamin Hathaway was born around 1699 (based on age on his gravestone). He was the son of Abraham Hathaway (Hathaway-726).
He married first Abigail Clemons around 1720 based on the first known child.

Benjamin married second Elizabeth Mahurin, widow of Theophilus Crossman,[1] on 14 Mar 1743/44 in Morristown, New Jersey.[2] She died in 1776 and her Will was probated 5 Dec 1776 in Morris County,[3] New Jersey. She had two children by her first husband.
Elizabeth had four children with Theophilus Crossman: Abigail, Joshua ,Theophilus, and Elizabeth or Bette who is my 8th ggmother. Bette married Jedediah Lyons. He died just short of a year of their marriage. They had a son also Jedediah. Benjamin Hathaway and Bette were the administrators of the estate.

Based on her Last Will, Benjamin and Elizabeth had three children:
Benjamin Hathaway died on 21 April 1762 at the age of 63 years old. The inscription on his gravestone reads:[4]
His will is dated 12 Feb 1762 and is probated 26 April 1762, in Morristown, Morris County. His wife, Elizabeth receives 1/2 of the yearly profits of his grist mill, and a cow, etc.
His daughters, Rebecca, Thankful, Abigail, and Kezia receive the rest of the moveable estate, except the blacksmith tools, which he gave to my son Jonathan.
His son, John received land on Whippaning River, of 40 acres; also the house brother Clark lives in, and 3 acres.
His son, Benoni received the other lands on the river.
His son, Joseph received 40 acres with the small house on it.
His son Eliazar received, also 40 acres.
His son, Gershom received 50 acres, joining Joseph and Eliazar.
His son, Benjamin received the rest of the land on the river, and the ironworks at Mendham.
His son, Jonathan received 50 acres where he lives, which once belonged to Thomas Allerton. Son, Clemens, also 50 acres.
His son, Job received 50 acres. Samuel Baldwin may have 1/4 and one half quarter of the grist mill, he paying 25 for the 1/4.
Executors - Mathew Lum and Benjamin Halsey.
Witnesses - Samuel Ford, Benjamin Lindsly, Timothy Johnes.
Proved April 26, 1762.[5]
His son Benjamin put the ironworks up for sale in July of 1762.[6]
