Biography

Ireland Native
Mary (Hatton) Carroll was born in Ireland.

Mary Hatton was born in Raffeen, County Cork in 1786. She was the daughter of Joseph Hatton and Hannah Morris.

In 1816, in her 30th year, she married Thomas Corfield Carroll, also from a Quaker family. Mary and Thomas had 4 children and there were other marriages between the Hatton and Carroll families including between her son Joseph Hatton Carroll and her niece Caroline Hatton, the daughter of her brother John Hatton.

Marriage between cousins went against the principles of the Society of Friends and Caroline's children joined the Church of Ireland.

Mary passed away in Cork in 1870 aged 74.
