She was born on the 16th day of October, 1760, under the reign of George II, King of England, and has lived a witness to the whole history of the United States. "''I
The biography of nephew Nicholas D. Hauer in Williams's History of Frederick County, Maryland says that Catherine was a daughter of immigrant Nicholas Hauer and his wife Catherine Zealer.
Catherine wrote her will on 21 June 1834, naming herself as the widow of Peter Mantz; it was probated on 10 February 1853. The will names daughters Louisa and Eliza, as well as daughter-in-law Elizabeth the wife of Catherine's son Gideon Mantz.
