Catherine was born in 1760. Catherine Hauer ... She passed away in 1853. Newspaper obituary: "She was the relict of Major Peter Mantz, one of the worthies of the Revolutionary war, died on the 5th inst., in Frederick county, Maryland, in the 93rd year of her age. She was born on the 16th day of October, 1760, under the reign of George II, King of England, and has lived a witness to the whole history of the United States. "''I[1]

The biography of nephew Nicholas D. Hauer in Williams's History of Frederick County, Maryland says that Catherine was a daughter of immigrant Nicholas Hauer and his wife Catherine Zealer.[2]

Catherine wrote her will on 21 June 1834, naming herself as the widow of Peter Mantz; it was probated on 10 February 1853. The will names daughters Louisa and Eliza, as well as daughter-in-law Elizabeth the wife of Catherine's son Gideon Mantz.[3]
