Walter was born on 16 January 1914 in Polk County, Minnesota.[1] He was the son of Andrew Haugen and Josephine Borslien.[2] He was baptized on 12 April 1914 at Evanger Lutheran Church, Fertile, Polk County, Minnesota.[3]
In 1940, he worked as a buffer in the auto parts industry.[4]
He died on 28 September 1983 in Hennepin County, Minnesota.[5] He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ashland, Ashland County, Wisconsin.[6]
