Note that George Hauser who served in American Revolution is George Jr., son of George and Margaretha

George Sr. was the blacksmith in Bethania. In Stokes Co. Heritage in a biography of George Jr., he is referred to as "a very successful miller and blacksmith... The Hausers were such a prominent family that the charming village of Bethania is still referred to by old timers as 'Hausertown'"

Christened Johann Georg [Alsatian-American Family Hauser]; however, nearly all records to him as an adult refer to him simply as George Hauser.

George moved with his parents to NC in 1753, and married in the same year [in Frederick Co. MD] They initially settled in Rowan County, on the Yadkin, but were obliged to flee their farm because of the Indian War, and came to Bethabara. They joined the Moravian Church there.

(Records of the Moravians in North Carolina 1:214. Nov. 16, 1759. The Militia have been ordered to Salisbury, where lots will be drawn to see who is to form the army against the Cherokees. Georg Hauser, who has built a house in Bethania but has not yet moved into it, came to us in great concern to ask advice. We think that those who live in Wachovia are not affected by this order, since Br. Jacob Loesch, as Captain of our fort, holds his commission directly from the Governor.

There are various additional mentions of him in volumes 1-3 of the Moravian records, referring to activities in the community.

3:1103. Jan. 11, 1776. During the morning George Hauser, Sr. rode in with the widow Stoltz. Soon after Br. Bonn arrived, and married them in George Hauser's house.

3:1166. Oct. 14, 1777. A letter from Br. Ernst brings the report that George Hauser, of Bethania, complained to Mr. Lanier against the Brethren, saying that they had pushed him out because he married an outsider, also that they would not let the joiner Seiler stay in the town because he was for Liberty. His brother, Michael, came in just as Mr. Lanier was writing down the complaint and solemnly protested against it; Mr. Lanier had said some rather threatening words about us.

6:2670. March 2, 1801. Our Brn. Marshall, Benzien, and Gambold, with other members of this congregation [Salem], went to Bethania to the funeral of Br. George Hauser, Sr., who fell asleep on the 28th of last month. At the request of relatives, Br. Kramsch, of Hope, held the service in both English and German. So many had gathered that the Saal, the steps, and the porch were crowded, and the larger part had to stand on the street.

The Alsatian-American Hauser Family book quotes his will, which names twelve children, of whom Sara and Gertraut are deceased.

The will is in Stokes Co. book 1, page 178; Absher book p. 23

Find A Grave shows an unreadable original stone, and a modern one (2007) erected by descendants. The latter gives his name as Johann Georg Hauser Sr. As indicated above, he is consistently referred to as George in the Moravian records.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:

Hi, Elizabeth and Dava Lynn --

There is a note in the biography that his son George is the one who served in the American Revolution; however, this George (Johann Georg) is also designated as a DAR Ancestor, so he must have also served, correct? (This is not an area of expertise for me by any stretch of the imagination. :-) )

Thanks!

Julie

George b. 1730 seems to be recognized for Patriotic Service, not for active military service. I haven't seen the actual DAR file for him, and would be interested in know what it says. His con George b. 1755 definitely did serve in the military.
