Biography
Birth
Lizzie was said to have been born in 1858, but lied in earlier censuses or in later censuses where she claimed that she was born in 1865.
Name
Her Hocąk name, given in the 1898 census, was Mas-cha-mone-win-kaw. This is perhaps for Mascąmąnįwįga, "Strong Walker," from máscą, mašcá, "strong"; mąnį, "to walk"; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names.
In the censuses, she is called "Lizzie", but in her son Stacy's marriage record, she has the name "Mary". (Iowa Marriages)
Marriages
She had a son from her first marriage who was 18 years old according to the 1897 Indian census, which meant that she was married to White Water by 1879. If she had been born in 1858, she would have been the 21 years old that she needed to be to marry, but her later census birth date of 1865 would make her a mere 14 years old.
