Stephanie was born in Orange NSW in 1914 and moved to the pastoral station of Gowan (situated on the corner of the Gowan and Freemantle Roads between Bathurst and Orange, NSW, Australia) after her mother purchased it in 1934.
Stephanie ran the 5000 acre property with little assistance and upon the death of her mother in 1956, she inherited the property and ran it until she moved to a nursing home 5 years before her death.
An article on page 21of the Friday 5 March 1954 edition of "The Farmer and Settler" covers Stephanie's running of Gowan Station. [1]
Stephanie was a notable equestrienne and Royal Agricultural Society Judge during her life. The walls of her home showcased some of her riding successes which are also noted in many newspaper articles of the day.
Stephanie never married or had any children. She was known as "Toppy" by her close family and friends until her later years when she rejected the nick name since her hair was grey and the nick name originated with "carrot tops" given to her by her brothers due to her auburn hair. The Gowan property was left to her niece Jennifer Hawker when she died.
She was cremated at Orange Crematorium NSW Australia.
