He was baptised 29 January 1860 at Filton, Gloucestershire. [1] His parents - contrary to erroneous information on a Canadian death certificate [2] - were Benjamin Hawker and Hester Brooks. (Quite why the names of William Hawker and Ellen Esty are wrongly given as his parents on his death certificate is a mystery. His death was registered by his son Benjamin J Hawker. He was born in 1889 and left for Canada in 1904. He would surely have known his grandparents - not least becuase he was named after his grandfather Benjamin Hawker - but, as sometimes happens, people know their grandparents only as Grandad or Granny and don't actually know their names.
In 1861 he is with his parents who were then at Horfield, Gloucestshire - the home base of his mother Hester Brooks. [3]
In 1871 he is with his parents at East Street, Beaminster, Dorset, his father's family home base. [4]
He married Mary Jane Bishop 5 July 1880 at Bristol Holy Trinity St Philip. [5] The civil registration district being Barton Regis. [6]
In 1881 he was living at Ambra Hill Bell Chambers 2, Clifton and was a Wand Weigher. [7]
He does not appear in the UK census for 1891 and some of his children seem to be staying with other family, especially his sister-in-law Clara. This suggests that during this period he, his wife and younger children may have been temporarily resident in Canada connected with his job.
In 1901 he is with his family at Avonmouth. [8]
In 1911 he is with his wife and some of his family in Bristol. [9]
Gus Hawker had 13 children and emigrated to Canada aboard The Empress of Ireland in March 1914 arriving at Halifax Nova Scotia. (The Empress of Ireland sank in May 1914). [10]
Augustus Stephen Hawker of St John's New Brunswick died 13.March 1922. Administration given in London 10 Feb 1923 to Mary Jane Hawker, widow. Effects £1003. 19s. 7d.
Some of his younger children most likely settled in Canada.
He is buried Fern Hill, cemetery St John's New Brunswick, Canada. [11]

I think we are distant (3rd cousins). Augustus Hawker was the elder brother of my great-grandmother Ellen Ann (Hawker) Moore (1863-1934). His father was not William Hawker but Benjamin Hawker (1838-1918). Once you link on that you will find an enormous tree!
