  • son John to receive 1/3 of the home lot, 1/3 of the lands in Hadley and a young horse at age 22
  • daughter Elizabeth - L20 on the day of her marriage

On September 28, 1669, Robert and Elizabeth Hinsdale, the mother of the above children, indicated to the court their desire to set the housing and lands in Hadley of John Hawkes, deceased, except those given to John Hawkes Jr., as security for the children's portions above as the previous court in 1663 had not provided security. [1]

On September 27, 1681, widow Elizabeth Hinsdale, administrator for her late husband John Hawkes estate, presented the court with a petition indicating the children had been paid their portions, and that further, she had returned to Hadley to live. Her request was to have sons Eleazer and Gershom who 'are yet unmarried,' improve the remainder of the whole estate to provide her maintenance during her life, and at her death, the court 'appoint those lands' to Eleazer and Gershom. Anyone object to disconnecting these parents. Anderson says Unknown origins. John of Hingham didn't have a son John as far as we know

Hi Anne B. and all,

We are two year post.

John is PPP. Are we ready to sever the attached parents.

While the link no longer functions, there is already a note on the profile, "See this site for a discussion of the probability of John Hawkes being a son of John Hawkes and Mary Cowper. DO NOT MERGE INTO JOHN HAWKES MARRIED TO MARY COWPER."

Yes. They should be detached. Let’s add links in this profile to their profiles and we can sever the relationships

Do you have a reliable source for that birth date & place, Bill? Anderson's Great Migration does not supply it, but if you have found a recently published article that gives it, I'm sure we'd love to hear.

I have him born on Jan 26 1613, is anyone else showing that, in Hingham, Norfolk England?

John Hawkes m. Mary Cowper 27 Jan 1612/3 so I suspect the date you have is based somehow on that date. However, this John's origins are unknown and he needs to be disconnected from these parents, who were probably not his.
