Polly was a daughter of Benjamin as stated in Benjamin's will of December 1827. In the will Benjamin stated his wife Mary was to choose one of the other children to take care of her and Polly during their life. Based on this statement it would appear Polly was handicapped in some way and would not be able to properly care for herself. In the Chancery Court Records for McMinn County, TN, page 24, entry #46, there is an 1860 statement regarding Polly and her mother Mary. Mr. It states Polly was of unsound mind and both Mary and Polly had long since died.
In the 1830 census for James Hawkins, it appears he took in his mother Mary and his sister Polly. In his household there is a female in the 40-50 age bracket who could be Polly and a female in the 70-80 age bracket who be Mary. Since Mary later married "old man Dodson" then Mary and Polly could have been living in a different household in 1840.
It is assumed Polly died prior to 1850.
