His father died in 1622 and in his will Richard was given the property of Alverstoke, Hampshire, England. [2]
He married Elizabeth Upton (Drake) on 13 Nov 1638 in St Budeaux, Devon, England. [3]
Children:
Richard died about 1665 in Slapton, Devon, England, and was buried in St. James Churchyard there. [6]
Disputed Biography from Find A Grave: Memorial #99220255: "Richard Hawkins, the second son of Admiral Sir Richard Hawkins and Judith Hele was born at Slapton, Devon, England. The old Register at Slapton Parish Church is much worm-eaten, and many pages are missing, but his baptism date of Jan 13 1612, at Slapton Devon, England survived. About 1623 Richard, the second son of Admiral Sir Richard Hawkins, according to his father's will, inherited Pryvitt, in Alverstoke, Southampton. (Source: Plymouth Armada Heroes: Chapter 7.)
Eight years after his mother died, England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973 confirms that Richard married Grace Cutland on Oct 14. 1633, in Slapton, Devon, England. Richard and Grace had one known son, John Joseph, about 1634, England & Wales Christening Records, 1530-1906 confirms that he was baptized in Warminster, Wiltshire, England on Mar 22, 1639. He immigrated to America about 1658.
Their daughter Elizabeth was born in 1635. She was baptized at the Slapton Parish Church of St. James. (This daughter probably immigrated with her father and stepmother, Elizabeth Drake. She married Humphrey Pope in Westmoreland Co. Virginia in 1650.
After the death of Grace, about 1637 Richard married Elizabeth "Betsey" Drake about 1638, probably in Slapton, and had two more known children, Nicholas Hawkins and Jeremiah Hawkins, both baptized at Slapton. Other children, all born in England, and said to be born to Richard and Betsey were: Drake Julian Hawkins; Julian Hawkins; Joane Hawkins; and Richard Hawkins. Richard and Betsy must have immigrated with some of their children to Virginia some after their youngest son, Richard was born in 1648. Before they died Richard and Betsey returned to Slapton.
Richard died in 1665 and Elizabeth died on Jan. 27, 1666, They were buried at St.. James Church and Churchyard, Slapton, South Hams District, Devon, England where they are "Resting in Peace.
