In 1841 William Hawkins was living at Curbridge in Oxfordshire with Sarah Arnold (a widow), Hannah Hawkins (who is presumably his mother) and Hannah's other children. His age was given as 13, implying a birth date in 1827 or 1828 ^[2].

In 1851 William Hawkins was living at Curbridge with his step-father Joseph Wood, mother Hannah Wood, and Hannah's other children from her first marriage.
