Biography

John, son of John Hawkins and Elizabeth Marshall, was born circa 1690 at Charles County, MD, and died before 12 Sep 1772 at Prince George's County, MD, when his will was proved.[1]

He married Elizabeth STONE say 1712; children (surname HAWKINS): [1]

  1. John Jr - m1. Susannah FRASER; m2. Priscilla widow of Leonard Covington
  2. Catharine - not mentioned by will of either parent

John's will dated 26 Jan 1758 mentioned his wife Elizabeth (executor) and grandchildren (children of his son John Jr) John Stone Hawkins, George Fraser Hawkins, Alexander Thomas Hawkins, Elizabeth Lawrence Hawkins, and Susannah Fraser Hawkins.[1]

John and Elizabeth made a deed of gift dated 30 Jan 1721/22, Prince George's County, MD, to their loving brother Thomas Hawkins for 150 acres of Goats Lodge and 50 acres of Hawkins' Purchase formerly Fair Fountain. On 14 Mar 1722, they deeded 200 acres of Hawkins Purchase formerly part of Fair Fountain, to his brother William Hawkins with 250 acres to his half-brother Thomas Hawkins.[2] John Hawkins held tracts including: Contention, Beall's and Magruder's Honest, Never Fear (30a patented 1/28/1739), By Chance, Forest Needwood, Hawkins Plains, Hawkins Merry Peep A Day, Hazard, John and Priscilla, Hawkins Clover Bottom, and Dukes Delight.[1][3]
