Biography
James was born in 1809. He is understood to be the son of Benjamin Hawkins and Susanna Lavinia (Downs) Hawkins. In 1850 he is recorded on the federal census in the Yalobusha County, Mississippi household of his sister Virginia (Hawkins) Carr (1811-1851) and her husband, William Austin Carr II (1803-1857). [1][2] James's estate was probated in Yalobusha County, Mississippi.
