When John Wesley Hawkins was born on April 27, 1871, in Pocahontas, Arkansas*[1][2]*[3]*[4][5], his father, Benjamin, was 24 and his mother, Mary, was 24. He married Cora Caroline Shipman on January 22, 1893. They had 11 children in 20 years. He died on October 30, 1952, in Rocky Comfort, Missouri, at the age of 81*[6] and was buried in Newton, Missouri.
