Biography

Sidney was born on 23 January 1816 in Marion, Smyth County, Virginia, the daughter of Joshua (b. 1780, Cumberland, Allegany co., Maryland, d. 24 Jan 1856, Monroe Co., Ohio) and Cassa Tracy (b. 1784, Maryland, d. 1827) Hawkins.
About 1835 at an unknown place, she married Simon Jackson and they had nine known children, eight sons and one daughter:
  1. Aaron B. Jackson
  2. Abraham Jackson
  3. John Jackson
  4. Hulda Jackson
  5. Samuel Jackson
  6. Joshua Jackson
When she was seventy-three, Sidney died of unknown causes, on 1 December 1889 in New Freeport, Greene County, Pennsylvania.[1]

Note: The census records for Simon's wife are not by themselves conclusive of much of anything: 1850 "Duey" was 33 years old and born in Virginia. 1860 "Sidney" was 44 years old and born in Ohio. 1870 'Idney' was 54 years old and born in Maryland. 1880 "Edna" was 63 years old and born in Ohio; her father and mother were both born in Ohio.

According to an ancestry.com tree Sidney's father was Joshua Hawkins. Joshua was buried in the same cemetery as Sidney's sons Simon Peter and William Taylor Jackson. Joshua was born in Maryland; his second marriage occurred in Harrison County, Virginia (now WV), so he probably lived there for a while, and he died in Monroe, Ohio. This ancestry.com chart is found at http:/trees.ancestry.com/tree/26364407/person12510533527.
Joshua probably settled in Monroe at least by 1836 as that is the assumed date of the marriage of Sidney and Simon Jackson in Monroe County, Ohio.
