Biography

Mary was born in 1845 in Lydden, with the birth registered at Dover. The baptism record only names her mother, Ann Charlotte Hawkins.

In 1851 she was living with her grandfather John along with her mother Charlotte, Aunt Henrietta and Uncle James.

She married George Spicer at Blean, Kent in 1864.^[1]

In 1871, she is registered at St. Mary Bredin, Kent.

Mary arrived as an assisted immigrant on the Hannibal in 1875. ^[3]

She passed away in 1879^[4] and is buried in the Motueka Cemetery.^[5]

Faversham and Lydden are both about 15 miles from Blean in opposite directions. So the chosen records for Mary Ann are based in the 1871 census being correct in giving her birth date as 1845.
