Washington Post Oct 23, 1924 Callahan ? Hawkins Wedding The marriage of Miss Florence Anita Hawkins, daughter of Mrs. Mary Thorn Hawkins, and Vincent Francis Callahan took place yesterday afternoon in St. Martin's Church and was followed by a re¬ception at the home of the bride's mother, 37 R Street,' Autumn leaves, with white chrys¬anthemums, dahlias and other fall flowers were need for decorations. The wedding marches were played by Joseph Gauges, and while the ceremony was in progress Miss Etelke Kearny sang "Ave Maria" and Oh Promise Me." Father Francis X. Cavanaugh officiated. The bride wore a gown of Spanish inspiration of shadow lace, with light bodice and long full skirt built over hoops. Garlands of flowers in pastel shades on the slip contributed a faint note of color. Her veil of tulle fell from a circlet of orange blossoms and formed the train. Her shower bouquet was of pride roses and lilies of the valley. The bride's brother, Archie V. Hawkins gave her in marriage. Mrs. Robert Patterson, who was matron of honor, wore sapphire blue crape embroidered in beads, with a hat of gold tulle and feather trim¬ming and gold slippers and hose. She carried al sheaf of golden dahlias. Mr. Harvey L. Cobb was best man for Mr. Callahan and the ushers were Mr. Paul Callahan, brother of the bridegroom, and Dr. William Umbau, brother-in-law of the bride Mrs. Hawkins, mother of the bride, wore a costume of .electric blue-beaded georgette, with a hat in which black and blue were com¬bined, and Miss Hawkins' sister. Miss Lelia Hawkins? gown was of brown beaded crepe, a tunic model with which she wore a brown hat. Mr. and Mrs. John J. Callahan, parents of the bridegroom, assisted in receiving, Mrs. .Callahan wearing a black lace costume and a black hat trimmed in egrets. After a wedding trip to New York by sea, the couple will return to Washington and will be at home after November 1 at 279.6 Connec¬ticut Avenue. Guests from out of town: for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs.Vandervoort B. Rohl, of New York; Mrs. A. A. Bechtler, Miss Marguer¬ite Bechtler and Mr. and Mrs. War¬ren Bechtler, all of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Lowden Campbell, of Ar¬lington, Va.
