Biography

William, son of John Hawkins and Elizabeth Marshall, was born in 1701 at Prince George's County, MD,[1][2] and died before 9 Nov 1751 at Prince George's County, MD, when his will was proved.[3]

On 14 Mar 1722, Elizabeth and John Hawkins deeded 200 acres of Hawkins Purchase formerly part of Fair Fountain, to his brother William Hawkins and 250 acres to his half-brother Thomas Hawkins.[4]

He married first Mary MIDDLETON circa 1727 at Prince George's County, MD. They had one child, Thomas born about 1728. On 28 Mar 1729 at Prince George's County, MD, William requested enrollment of 60 acres called Long Point from Thomas Middleton "for love and affection unto William for his natural life then to his son Thomas Hawkins by his late wife my daughter Mary."[5]

He married second on 13 May 1729, at St. John's Parish, Prince George's County, MD, Sarah NOBLE, daughter of Joseph NOBLE Sr and Mary WHEELER; children (surname HAWKINS):[6]

  1. Mary Eleanor - b. 17 Nov 1730, d. before Oct 1760; m. Peter DENT Jr
  2. James - b. 25 Oct 1731, d. circa 1794; m. Elizabeth BEALL
  3. Noble - b. circa 1732, d. 4 Mar 1750
  4. John - b. 1738, d. before 5 Jan 1775; m. Dorothy WOOD
  5. William - b. circa 1740
  6. Samuel - b. circa 1742

He was a planter with tracts called Stones Delight, Comptons Treatment, and De Cregoes Lott. William's will dated 1745 at Prince George's County, MD, mentioned his two sons Noble and James, next son John, next son William, next son Samuel, daughter Mary Eleanor, and son Thomas (under 21). Executors were his brother John Hawkins Sr and Joseph Noble Sr. His will was proved on 9 Nov 1751 at Prince George's County, MD, and on 22 Nov 1752 the residue was distributed to Thomas Hawkins (of age), James Hawkins (of age), Mary Elianor Hawkins (of age), John Hawkins (age 14), William Hawkins (age 12), and Samuel (age 10).[3]
