Biography

John W. was born in 1844. He passed away in Nov. 1916

His wife filled out his death certificate; he was listed as a farmer, she did not know his date of birth!! or his parents names! He died of TB and was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery. Her address at the time was 310 Dakota in Highland Park Louisville KY - my father always told me he also lived in the Highland Park area.

His tombstone can be seen at the Findagrave website: Pvt.John W. Hawkins Cave Hill Cemetery. He is buried in Section E Grave 4709 with a military tombstone for his Union service during the Civil War.

His military records are found at the Indiana Archives shows he enlisted for the Union 23 Oct. 1861 age abt. 18 and served until 13 Sept. 1865; Company D Regiment 49 just as his burial records state for Cave Hill Cemetery.

Also, the Death certificate of his DAUGHTER Thomas Anna Hawkins Dixon, my grandmother. Yes, her first name was Thomas and no I don't know why, her son John, my own father didn't know either!
