Research Notes

  • Families of Old Fairfield does not mention a wife for Moses Wheeler, but does include his children.
  • Moses mentions his wife in his 19 Feb 1689/90 will, but does not name her. She was not mentioned in distributions dated 1719 and 1722 Accessed at Ancestry ($)
  • The surname of Miriam is not known for certain. There are no actual records that identify her as a sister of Joseph Hawley; she only appears as a Hawley in family genealogies. In particular, the Hawley Record does not identify Miriam as a Hawley,[1] and Torrey lists her surname as "doubtful" (see citation). If Miriam is confirmed to in fact have been a sister of Joseph Hawley, she should be disconnected from her "parents" and attached to the same Unknown Hawley as the four known Hawley siblings. She would probably be the second oldest, after Elizabeth, based on her marriage year, so born about 1622. See the research notes for Elizabeth (Hawley) Booth for some details on the known Hawley siblings. If her surname cannot in fact be confirmed, she should still be disconnected form her "parents".
  • There are no records for "siblings" Grace and Robert. They are probably fictitious, and they should be disconnected from Miriam in any case.

Father Samuel b. 1647 and mother Katherine b. 1581, means parents were 56 years apart in age, and Miriam was born before her father. Please fix this!
