By the time of the 1861 Census Thomas, together with his mother Elizabeth and siblings Millicent and Samuel are residing in Thorn Tree Lane, Ironville, Alfreton, Derbyshire.
At the time Thomas was married in Ironville Parish in 1864 he was living in Fletcher’s Row, Ironville where he remained through the 1871-1911 Census records and probably until his death in 1917
Death
Thomas Hawley passed away in 1917 in Belper District (probably Alfreton, Derbyshire) aged 81 years (dob=1836)[5]
Research Notes
On the 1871 Census Thomas records a daughter, Hannah Hawley, aged 11 (b.1860), living with him and his wife Mary in Alfreton, Derbyshire. Hannah is born some 4 years before Thomas and Mary were married, thus it remains to be seen who exactly might be her parents. Unhelpfully (or not) GRO Birth Registers provide the most likely candidate ie. born around 1860 in Belper District without a Mother’s Maiden Name[6].
Interestingly at the time of the previous Census in 1861, Hannah Hawley, aged 1 year old, born in Horsley Woodhouse, is residing in the household of Sarah Brentnall, aged 65 years and also from Horsley Woodhouse. Hannah is recorded as a Grandchild. Also at the residence is Naomi Hawley, aged 23 years (b.1838) also of Horsley Woodhouse.
A christening of Hannah Hawley took place in Horsley, Derbyshire on 11 October 1859; the child’s Mother was recorded as Naomi Hawley.
A Naomi Hawley is christened in Horsley, Derbyshire on 30 June 1837, the daughter of Henry and Hannah Hawley.
Although no connection can be found, as yet, between Thomas and the Brentnall/Hawley families - in the 1851 Census Sarah Brentnall, now the widow of John Brentnall, records at her residence, a Millicent Hawley, aged 13 years, born 1838, Horsley Woodhouse who may be Thomas’ sister Millicent Hawley
