Lena was born in 1901. She is the daughter of Henry Hawley and Olive Goodson.

Lena's mother Ollie Bernice Goodson mrd 2nd to Henry Clay Hawley 1894 after her first husband Charles Lester Hinch died. Lena had two other younger sister's.
