Lemuel Hawley was born on 4 April 1742 in Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut to parents Abraham Hawley and Hanna Brinsmade.[1] His father died when he was very young. His mother remained his guardian and remarried Timothy Wilcoxson.[2]
