Biography

1776 Project
Private Thomas Hawley served with 18th Regiment, Connecticut Militia during the American Revolution.

Birth

Thomas Hawley was born in 1738 in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Connecticut, son of Ezra Hawley (1711–1773) and Abigail Hall (1715–1786).[1]

Family

Thomas married Anne Gregory (born in 1743 in Stratfield, Fairfield; daughter of Enoch Gregory and Esther (Smith) Gregory). Their children were:

Death

Thomas died on November 19, 1797 in Bridgeport, USA, aged 58.[2] [3] [1] He was buried in Old Stratfield Cemetery, Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Probate

Thomas's will is dated 15 November 1797 and proved on 16 December 1797 in Stratford. He mentions his wife Ann, and his children, Abigail Sherman, Anne Hawley, Zalmon/Salmon Hawley, Ebenezer Hawley, and Abijah Hawley. His inventory was completed on 15 February 1798 in Stratford.[4]

In 1800, his real estate distribution was set out to his widow Ann, Ebenezer Hawley (eldest son), Abijah Hawley, and Salmon Hawley.[5]
