Chauncy was born in 1854, the son of Chauncey Hawley and Mary Manly.
He married Amoret J. Hayes (1855–1937). They had the following children:
Mary Blanche Hawley 1878–1917
Fern R. Hawley 1887–1902
He passed away in 1919. Buried at Hillside Cemetery, West Farmington, Trumbull County, Ohio.
