Biography

WELMET HAWORTH was born about 1753 in Virginia. She married Joseph Kemp or Camp in Orange County on April 18, 1771. Joseph was a son of Richard and Susannah Kemp. They lived in the area of the Cane Creek MM.

(Note: Several spellings have been found in various records for Welmett Haworth. They include Wilmett, Wilmot, Welmet, Wellmet, Haworth, and Hayworth.)

Depending on the source, Welmett was born in 1750 or 1753 which is recorded as occuring in the Hopewell MM, Frederick, Virginia. Welmett is the child of Stephanus Haworth and Rachel Beeson. On April 18, 1771, she married Joseph Kemp at the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, Orange County, North Carolina. Together, they had at least six children: Susannah Kemp, Rachel Ruth Kemp, John Kemp, Welmett Kemp, Joab Kemp, and Josiah Kemp. Welmett Haworth Kemp died sometime around 1800 in North Carolina. At this time, no burial place or cemetery has been found.
