Henry Haworth was born on 14 September 1760 and was the youngest son of Samuel Haworth and Susannah Harris.[1]
Henry was a renowned carver and painter who attended the Royal Academy in London with his brother William Haworth. However he was apprenticed for seven years to Thomas Mayfield, a London coach painter, on 4 October 1769.[2]
Henry was enticed to Falkirk by the Adam brothers, Robert and John, who had a considerable stake in the world famous Carron Iron Company. Henry arrived in 1779 when he was nineteen years of age, however his career was short-lived as he caught a chill while attending a ball in Linlithgow and died in 1781.
Henry married Margaret Rae who was pregnant with their only child when he died. Margaret gave birth to a son, William Henry Haworth, in 1782 and he went on to have eleven children. Henry was said to have been buried in Larbert Parish Churchyard but there is no existing headstone.
Most of the information above is from an article published in the Falkirk Herald newspaper.[3]
