Biography

Alexander Hawthorne was born on 2 Sep 1867 in Knock[??man], County Armagh, Ireland to Alexander Hawthorne, a farmer, and Mary (McComb) Hawthorne - his birth was registered in the district of Mountnorris in the union of Newry, County Armagh.[1]

Alexander Hawthorne (full age, Bachelor, Farmer, resident of Segahan, son of Alexander Hawthorne, Farmer) married Martha Margaret Carlisle (full age, Spinster, resident of Seagoe[?], daughter of William Carlisle, Farmer) on 5 Jul 1899 at the 1st Presbytarian Church in Armagh - witnesses were David Christy & Julia Hawthorne, and the marriage was registered in the district of Armagh.[2]

Alexander and Martha had at least one son:

  1. Alexander Hawthorne (1900-1969)

In 1901 Alexander Hawthorn (age 32, Farmers Son) lived at Seagahan in Lisnadill, County Armagh with his mother Mary (67, Farmer) and wife Maggie (30, Housekeeper).[3]

Alexander Hawthorn of Segahan was the informant on his mother's death registration in 1904.

In 1911 Alexander Hawthorne (age 43, Farmer) lived at Seagahan in Lisnadill with his wife Martha M (40) and son Alexander (10, Scholar).[4]

Alexander's wife passed away in 1917: Martha Margaret Hawthorne died on 19 Dec 1917 at Segahan - she was 52 years old; married; the wife of Alexander Hawthorne, a farmer; cause of death was probably carcinoma of [?] & exhaustion (no medical attendant); the informant was her son Alex Hawthorne of Segahan who was present at her death.[5]

Alexander married again in 1922 to Agnes McClure. They married on 2 Aug 1922 in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Her father was listed as William McClure, a farmer. His father was listed as Alexander Hawthorne, a farmer. Witness were Sarah Ann McClure and John McClure.[6]

Alexander died on 4 Jun 1947 in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. His son, Alexander, was listed on the death record.[7]
