When Laney was about 19 she married Augustus Bell in about 1855 in , Pickens, Alabama, United States. The couple had one child: Thomas Newton Bell. Reference: 44051
Laney died at the age of about 74 in about 1910 in Lowndes, Mississippi, United States.
She has long been in the cemetery records as follows: Laney Hawthorn Bell, Born 1836, Died 1910, but there is no monument. There is a penciled notation as "Bell" with a question mark in the vacinity of some unmarked graves on Row 7 in the NW section, the oldest portion, of the cemetery.
