In the 1901 Census, the family was living in Carsonstown.[2] All the members were Presbyterian and described as born in Co Down.

Sarah married John Nicholas Peak on 13 Oct 1909 in First Saintfield Presbyterian Church, Saintfield parish, Co Down.[3] The couple were both of 'full age' and previously unmarried. Sarah lived at Carsonstown; John was a carpenter living in Grinnell, Iowa, USA, and his father was James Peak, a publican. The witnesses were Walter Peak and Ruth Hawthorne.
After their marriage, John Peak returned to Grinnell, Poweshiek, Iowa with Sarah, and the couple remained in the county:
