Daughter of Julian (b June 1848 in MA) and Minie (b Aug 1849 in MS) Hawthorne (1900 census).

Imogen's father was born in Massachusetts, and his mother in Louisianna.

Imogene was the youngest granddaughter of Nathaniel Hawthorne (obituary for Dr. William Deming, "The New York Times," Jan. 17, 1954).

Did Imogene seperate from William Deming and remarry to Charles A. Van Dusee of Cairo, Georgia? Yes. Imogene Deming married Charles Alonzo Van Duzee in 1929.

The "Repository," Canton, OH, July 15, 1934 reported the death of Julian Hawthorne, "son of the writer, Nathaniel Hawthorne." One of his daughters was "Imogene Van Duzee of Cairo, Ga."

Deming---Hawthorne.
The wedding of Miss Imogen Hawthorne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Hawthorne and a granddaughter of Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Dr. William Champion Deming of Westchester, was celebrated yesterday in the New Jerusalem Church in East Thirty-fifth Street by the Rev. Julian K. Smyth, pastor of the church. Miss Hawthorne had as her maid of honor and bridesmaids her three sisters, the Misses Beatrix, Gwendolin, and Hildegarde Hawthorne. Mr. Deming's best man was Alfred E. Schermerhorn, and the ushers were the brothers of the bride, E. L. B. Hawthorne, Henry A. Hawthorne, and F. B. Hawthorne. A small reception followed the church ceremony.

Her gravestone reads "Imogen Hawthorne Deming, 1884-1947, Widow of C. A. Van Duzee, with the love of all her children"
