Hector Haydel is a part of US Black heritage.
Hector was born about 1769 and was a member of the Susu Nation in Guinea, Sierra Leone when he was taken from his people. He is a survivor of the Atlantic crossing. He was enslaved on the Whitney Plantation owned by Jean Jaques Haydel, the son of Ambrose Heidel. He is listed on an inventory of the plantation in 1819. At the time of this inventory he was 50, and valued at 100 piastres.
On January 13, 1820, Hector was sold as an individual to Germaine Ayme for 355 piastres.[1]
