Biography

Joel Hayden was born in Vermont.

Joel, the second son and third child of Joel Hayden and Lucy Flint was born 24 November 1780 at Putney, Vermont.^[1]

Joel married Rebecca N. Tower, daughter of Samuel and Rebecca (Nichols) Tower November 1803, likely at Winchendon, Worcester, Massachusetts.^[2]They had eight children:

1. Harriet F. Hayden (b. 1804; d. 1853), m. 21 Dec 1830, John Perkins (1801-1832)
2. Rebecca Nichols Hayden (b. 1806; d. 1834), m. 20 Sep 1832 at Fitzwilliam, NH, Charles Richardson 91805-1835)
3. Daniel Tower Hayden (b. 8 May 1808, Winchendon, MA; d. 1838),^[3] m. 5 Nov 1833 at Fitzwilliam, NH, Sarah Reed (1811-)
4. John Milton Hayden (b. 6 Jun 1813, Winchendon, MA; d. 25 Sep 1891, Manhattan, NY),^[4][5]
5. Elizabeth (alias Betsey) Hayden (b. 1814; d. 1879), m. 2 Apr 1836, Lucius Hamilton Briggs (1811-1889)
6. Joel Hayden (b. 1816; d. 1817),

Joel Hayden died on 2 December 1856 in his 76th year at Fitzwilliam. His will was entered into probate in 1856 at Cheshire County, New Hampshire.^[6]He is buried in the Village Cemetery at Fitzwilliam, Cheshire, New Hampshire.^[7]
