John was a son of Nehemiah Hayden and Hannah Neale, born in Braintree, Massachusetts. Sprague's Genealogies of the Families of Braintree does not report a birth date for him.[1] In his father's will, he is listed between brothers Benjamin and Ebenezer, suggesting that John was born between these brothers. Both Benjamin and Ebenezer were baptized in April 1693[2]
He inherited his house in Braintree and 25 acres of land from his father, who died in January or February 1717/8.[2] He was an innholder in the South Precinct of Braintree (the area that later became Randolph). He was elected hogreave in 1717, fenceviewer in 1729, constable in 1734 but refused to serve, surveyor of highways in 1736 and 1738 for South Precinct. He was a partner in the Land Bank of 1740.[3]
He was married to Margaret (Curtis) Thayer, widow of Benjamin Thayer, on 26 February 1712/3. He was her second husband.[3]
John is recorded as the parents of one child, presumably with wife Margaret: [3]
John Hayden was still living as of March 1754.[3]
