PLEASE NOTE: Her last name given here is likely, but speculative. The middle name "Nicholson" does not appear in any contemporary record of her name, and may be a later invention. Evidently it first appears in the newsletter of the Edwards Heirs association in 1925. See: https://archive.org/stream/edwardsheirs00unse/edwardsheirs00unse_djvu.txt
Her maiden name has never been confirmed, though long speculated to be Haden or Hayden due to her son being named "Haden." Some older genealogies, including Virginia Genealogies by Rev. Horace Hayden, have speculatively attached her to the Hayden family of Lancaster County, Virginia, with zero evidence. Much older work assuming the Westmoreland Edwards family came from the Lancaster family has been thoroughly debunked. See: https://edwardsvirginiagenealogy.blogspot.com/2019/11/a-walk-through-various-errors-in.html
If she was a Hayden, she was more likely a daughter of Charles Hayden/Haydon of Westmoreland County, Virginia.
She last appears as "Mary Edwards of Westmoreland" in King George County court as a witness on May 4, 1733. Her husband, William, appeared the same day.
According to information submitted to the DAR, Mary was born in 1694 in Wicomico, Northumberland, Virginia, USA.[1]
