S t o r y : He was the most serious historian of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. He gave me a copy of his history of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, his cemetery lists, and parish census lists and marriage lists for this parish. I considered him a joy to work and share with and a great friend.

Francis Leonard Hayden married Edith Mary Raley on May 27, 1924. She was the daughter of Joel Leslie and Della (McIntire) Raley. Their marriage is recorded in Marriage Book 25 on page 100 in the Marion County, Kentucky Clerk's Office in Lebanon, Kentucky.

'Zig" Hayden, age 83, dies May 20, 1983

F. L. (Zig) Hayden, Loretto, Ky., died Friday, May 20, at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon. He was 83 years of age and a retired salesman for Belknap Hardware Company. Mr. Hayden was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Lebanon Council 1264 of the Knights of Columbus.

His wife, the former Edith Mary Raley, preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 1982. He is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Medley, Mrs. J. P. (Mary Edith) Yates, Mrs. Joann Hamilton, Mrs. Bobby (Ruth) Miles, all of Loretto; Mrs. Freddie (Fannie) Nally, Fredericktown; Mrs. Adolph (Betty Sue) Hicks, Bardstown, and Mrs. Jim (Peggy) Browning, Lebanon; four sons, Leslie Hayden and Bobby Hayden of Loretto; John Hayden and Fred Hayden, Louisville; 51 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

The funeral Mass was held May 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi. The concelebrants were Rev. Bill Medley, a grandson of the deceased, Revs. Marvin C. Rolfes, C. Patrick Creed, and Patrick H. Warren. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Grandsons, Mark Nally, Jerry Miles, Jimmy Yates, Michael Hicks, Phil Medley, and Jeff Hamilton, were pallbearers. Other grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.

Note: His grandson, Bishop William Medley is the fourth bishop of the Diocese of Owensboro, Kentucky.

Zig is buried in cemetery #3, in Lot22, in grave 4.
